Reynolds Soft Linen Update

dollar and a half cardiganI thought I’d pass this along since I can see from my stats a lot of people are coming across my blog while searching for the Dollar and a Half Cardigan and/or the Reynolds Soft Linen. Thanks to some help from Pam, I found that Patternworks has it listed on line with an available date of 2/15/07. She saw it in Webs catalog but I didn’t find it on their website.

Has anyone given any thought to substitutions for this pattern? Suggestions?

3/7/07 Edit: Webs definitely has it online now. I notice a LOT of hits for this post so here are some more online stores that have it. Good Luck!

  1. I don’t have any yarn substitution suggestions, but I thought your idea was interesting to post something based on what hits your blog has been getting. Hmmm, have to go check out sitemeter and see how people are finding mine.

  2. Since it appears to be knit on size 5 needles, I’d go with my trusty DK weight substitutes like Rowan Cashsoft DK, Brown Sheep’s Cotton Fleece, or Rowan Wool Cotton. Let me know what you end up doing! I think Rowan Cashsoft DK will be my yarn of choice for this cardigan. :-D

  3. I’m going to try out the new KnitPicks yarn Cotlin on it…I can’t wait to make it :)

  4. I making my dollar and a half cardi with a warmer subsitute for Reynolds Soft Linen using Rowan’s Pure Wool DK which comes in some delicious colours.I sticking to the delicious tones of the mocha brown.

  5. I am currently knitting the Dollar and a Half Cardigan. I am using Cascade “Cloud 9″ yarn…which is 50% wool/50% angora.

I am using a US 9 to get perfect gauge for the lace pattern, and using a US 8 for the reverse st st sections (to prevent puckers).

Also, using US8 for the ribbing. Pattern does not specify a smaller needle for the ribbing…but, the US9 ribbing looked too loosish.

    It is turning out beautifully.

I am using Debbie Bliss’s Cathay (mixture of cotton, microfibre, silk) because it has similar gauge and drapes as well as linen.
