Mentionable is lovely

IMG_8231Looking for WiP it Wednesday? Not this week! I’ve been shamed into finishing several items so I only have 3 WiPs and nothing new to show on them. (I am working on the front of the Minimalist Cardigan but how many pic of unfinished tweed can you see? I did finish Mentionable last night! I love it! It’s by far my favorite knit. I’ll definitely be wear it! Maybe the secret to tops I actually like is finer yarn and smaller needles. The pattern is great, thanks Wendy! This is the first of her patterns I’ve made but I have several in the queue. This was also the first pattern I bought a kit for and at the time was the most expensive yarn I’d bought. I am not sorry. Love the yarn! Love the pattern! I really should have finished this months ago. I had to wait for my mom to come visit to help mark where the straps were gonna go. Then I just kept putting off knitting 10 stitch wide seed stitch strap. Boring.

I know have two problems. People I have NO idea what to knit next. Yes I have a wonderful queue in Ravelry so I can easily see everything that’s in there. I have yarn for several things, but for many of them its just too hot. I considered the Spicy V Neck Tee, but I”m worried over all it will be too bulky for me and I wont like it. *sigh* I can not believe I’m having this problem!

Second problem (not really a problem) I have a ball and a half of this yarn left. Really enough to make another top! what do I do with it? I’d kinda like to keep it for something for myself since I love it so much, but is that weird? Maybe something for winter so I’m not wearing it at the same time as Mentionable?

  • IMG_8232 Cast On: April 2007
  • Weaving In: August 14th 2007
  • Pattern: Mentionable
  • Needles: Size 4 &6 Knit Picks Options
  • Yarn: Yarn Botanika Merino Tencel blend, I bought the kit on Etsy when the pattern first came out.
  • Modifications : I added wider straps per Wendy’s instructions. They are 10 stitch wide in a seed stitch. Since I knew they would stretch I didn’t mak them very long. They don’t really hold the top up anyway, the twins to that.

Crack that WiP

IMG_8166Here we have another installment of the sporadic (on my part) WiP it Wednesday. I think the idea is to shame you into finishing projects so you’re not showing the same picture every Wednesday for 6 months. Of course you could not show the picture and deny you’re working on anything. But really if you’re at the point, lying to you fellow knitters, well, I think it’s intervention time.

First up the Mini Cardi that we’ve heard so much about lately. I’m done with the arm hole shaping and working my way up. Like it? Want one of your very own? Join the KAL :) Yeah Yeah I know it’s August and hot as hell and you can’t even think of wearing wool. I cast on for this on Sunday, so it’s shame free.

IMG_8159

The Simple Throw is still on the needles, it’s too hot to have a big acyclic blanket on my lab, luckily it’s a Christmas gift so there is no hurry. The desire to not have heat stroke over rides all shame on this one.

IMG_8143

The Lace Tank , well it’s sort of on hold because I only have one set of size 6 tips for my KnitPicks options and I took them to use in the Mini Cardi. Yes I realize with the weather and what not I should focusing on this because it’s something I can actually wear. ha ha ha. I am the Queen of Denial. If I knit for Fall, Fall will come. Right? RIGHT?!?! ;) ok fine slight shame.

IMG_8139

Along those same lines we have Clapotis , in which I come very late to the party. Let’s call it fashionably late, shall we? No need for even more shame. This is going to warm and lovely when done. I’m only worried it will shed on my clothes, I envision wearing it over a black top, so every little strand will show. *le sigh* I’m happy with my yarn choice (Andean Silk from KnitPicks) but a little worried I wont have enough yarn to make it as long as I’d like. How much does this stretch when blocked?

Barely started, can it really even be called a WiP? The Feather and Fan Scarf from Fashionable Projects for the New Knitter in Cascade 220

And here comes the unavoidable shame part. I still have not finished the straps for Mentionable . I should be wearing this gorgeous top. It seems ridiculous that this isn’t done jsut because of the straps. I’m going to go by Joanns to see if I can find something suitable to sew on for straps. Any suggestions?

Whip It!

IMG_7298

Yesterday was my first day off from the Library in over two weeks. Tonight I have to work at the winery but it was so nice yesterday to know I didn’t have to get up and go to work this morning. Working that many days in a row was starting to mess with my head, I couldn’t keep straight what day of the week it was. Anyway, on to the WIPs!

First up my new project the Lace Tank from the Summer issue of Vogue Knitting. Unblocked lace not much to look at, I know. But there’s the start of it, I cast on this morning.

IMG_7290Next up the Check Board Throw I’m making for my niece, for Christmas. It’s coming along nicely I just need to run to Hobby Lobby for more yarn. I don’t think that actually breaks any knit from the stash rules.
IMG_7286

The Drop Stitch Lace Tank from Fitted Knits, done except for blocking which I will get to this week. I really like this top, but it seems, well, heavy. I guess that would be the Pima Tencel.

IMG_7282

Mentionable is just awaiting a visit from my mom so she can help me mark where to put the straps, she’ll be here tomorrow. So I need to hurry up and decide on the stitch pattern I’ll use for them. I’m thinking seed stitch on the smaller needles I used for the top. BTW it’s almost impossible to get a decent self pic of this yarn. When it’s completely done I’ll have to recruit someone to take pics for me.

Scarf w/edging 21 & insertion 25 pg 100 is coming along nicely. I do love the Victorian Lace Today but it would have been nice if they’d come up with some more interesting names for the patterns.

Happy Knitting and have a great Fourth, I’m back to the knitting chair to listen to Harry Potter and knit away.

She dreams in color

IMG_7157I’m almost finished with Mentionable! I’m a little further along than this picture, I started the seed stitch on the bottom. Then I’ll need to add the straps, that will be the hard part. I’ll probably have to wait until my mom comes down to help me mark where they need to go in the back. I love this pattern and the yarn, if all goes well with the straps I’ll definitely be wearing it, mostly likely with a cami underneath. This yarn is really hard to photographs so you can’t see as much detail as I would like. I’m going to have at least one ball of this left. It’s 400 yards/4 oz, any suggestions? I’m thinking something lace, maybe from Victorian Lace Today.

PS. sometimes it’s really hard to take a picture of yourself, I’m really jealous of everyone who has a photographer! :)

Show me your WiPs!

Ever notice those projects on the side bar? Wonder why the heck the Drop Stitch Lace Tank is still there? Has she bothered to picked up Mentionable this month? Does she even still knit? Well nows your chance to find out! Turtlegirl suggested a show me your WiPs Wednesday, I’m not saying I’ll do it every Wednesday becuase we all know I’m can’t commit, but I’ll do it occasionally

  • Remember the Dollar n Half Cardigan? It’s on hiatus. I put it aside for several reasons, I needed something portable to take on the train, I think I’m going to frog so I can have stockinette vs reverse stockinette. Yeah, yeah that was 2 months ago, whatever. I think I’ll start working again soon, but don’t hold your breath.

  • Mentionable , I am working on this a little every evening. I’m getting close to finishing the body.

IMG_7062

  • What’s that? More crochet? Yep! It’s the start of a Farmer’s Market Bag for me. In pink, cuz pink rocks and I rock.

IMG_7051

  • Scarf w/edging 21 & insertion 25 pg 100 from Victorian Lace Today. Love it! Love knitting lace. Plus easier than I thought. This is my first real lace project Look out lace here I come! Soon I be swathed in lace knit shawls, hankies, collars you name it! Ok not really because we all know I don’t actually knit that fast.

IMG_7046
btw – I made a major error and you can see it in this picture if you’re really looking. Rather than frog I’ve opted to call it a design signature and keep going because it’s a scarf and I don’t think it will be obvious.

Happy Knitting!
