Mom’s Gloves
For Christmas my mom asked for a neutral set of hat and gloves to wear with all the scarves I’ve made for her. She really likes the novelty yarn ones and she has a LOT so I went with neutral colors and a pattern so as not to compete. I really wanted to add some cables, but resisted the urge. She also finds pretty much all wool itchy so I used Bernat Natural Blends Cashmere, 65% Acrylic, 30% Nylon, 5% Cashmere. If I have time I’m planning to sewing in a fabric lining so they’ll be warmer.

It’s a Crying Shame
Whoot Whoot! It’s time for another installment of WiP it Wednesday! Grab a cup of coffee, get situated next to your friends and get ready to point and judge! I’ll be confessing what I have been working on, what I’ve been neglecting and what new things I’ve started that I shouldn’t have. Somehow this always feels like that dream where I’m in school and I realize I’m naked and everyone is laughing.
Ok let’s just get the things I haven’t been working on out of the way
- Tree Jacket – on hiatus until after the Xmas knitting is done, I’m not happy about this, but it had to be done.
- Lace Tank – hibernating, frankly I think I deserve points for even admitting I’m still working on it.
- Picovoli – hibernating, ditto
- Hemlock Ring Blanket – on hiatus until after the Christmas knitting
- Melon Pattern Scarf – hiatus, same as above
- Simple Log Cabin Throw – I am still working on this and will have it done for Christmas.
I did finish the Chicabean Scarf and started on the matching hat. I’m really happy with how the hat is coming out, I think I’ve got the decreases all figured out. Oh and there have been some inquiries about the pattern, it’s based on a stitch pattern the Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns , so even though I’ve adapted it for the hat I don’t think I’m allowed to write a pattern for it.
My mom asked for a hat and mittens in a neutral color to wear with all the knit scarves she has. So as much as I wanted to spice them up with cables or patterns I kept them really simple. I’m almost finished with the mittens. I’m considering trying to line them. Has anyone done this? Suggestions? Thoughts?
Christmas knitting to be started
- Scarf for Grandma – commissioned by my mom
- Hat for Grandpa – commissioned by my mom
- Dishcloths for a friend – commissioned
- Dad’s neck warmer
- Moms Hat
- Simple Log Cabin Throw

Stir Crazy Mittens
So I called into work on Monday given that I’d been reduced to painfully hobbling from place to place, I figured work would go on with out me and I am no martyr. Nope, I didn’t go to the doctor, but soaked my foot in Epsom salt and kept it elevated. After two days of this behavior I was getting a little stir crazy, none of the books I had interested me, I didn’t want to knit anymore, I was tired of the internet, the tv couldn’t even hold my attention. What I really wanted was a trip to Barnes and Noble, but two things stopped me, the painful limb and lack of any money and knowing I would surely buy something if I went. I do love B&N. *sigh* I finally gave up and turned the AC on because fuck it, if I”m gonna be bored and bitchy I could at least not be sitting in puddle of my own sweat, than you very much.
Before I got to this stage I decided I wanted to knit with the beautiful Manos I bought a couple of months ago. I’d found a pattern for mittens in one of my books. So the yarn was wound into cakes and knit into to lovely mittens. The yarn is beautiful, the colors are stunning. I love the mittens. I have enough left for a matching hat. Unfortunately the pissiness has set in and not even the thought of the matching hat will make me happy now.
