and Yarn

I got a sampler from KnitPicks months ago, the colors are lovely.
Shadow Spring Green Heather

This is Shadow in Juniper Heather.  They will probably either be scarves or something from one of the One Skein books.

I woke up this morning to find an email from KnitPicks in my inbox.  I have to confess I’ve never really been interestd in color work, I apprecaite the complexity of it, but I haven’t had a lot of desire for the finished prodcut.  Until now.  Look at these bags!  Also I just noticed KnitPicks ad that  say “Yarn diet? What Yarn diet?” woooo they are evil!

Chicabeans ClapotisI finally finished Chicabean’s Clapotis, she asked for one after seeing mine last year. She wanted something neutral that she can wear over dresses so I chose grey. I used KnitPicks Elegance (alpaca and silk) so it would be a bit finer and thiner. It has all the elegance and grace that is Clapotis. It looks great, it’s warm and soft and I think it’s the perfect length and width for what she wants to use it for. I hope she thinks so too. I sent it off to her on Monday. Perfect timing since her birthday is this week. Happy Birthday Chicabean! She turns 30!

What can I say about Clapotis that hasn’t already been said?

I’m pretty sure this wont be my last Clapotis!

Happy Leap Year Day!

I close on my house today! wooohooo! I’m so glad I wont be a home owner any more. I had this weird moment yesterday when I was cleaning and thinking about how happy I am to be rid of the house and it occurred to me that at the same time today there would be people in there happy to own it.

So what did ya’ll think of Lost last night? This one was a little more thought provoking than oh-my-god! But of course I loved it, you can’t go wrong with Lost. I’m read for a Sawyer or Jack centric episode, though. Dont’ get me wrong I like Desmond ok, but…. 😉

This week’s Yarn Pr0n – KnitPicks Gloss in Black. I ordered this one some Elegance when I was trying to decide which to use for Chicabean’s Clapotis, I ended up using the Elegance, so this is left. I have plenty but no idea what it will be. I know I’ve mentioned a Yarn Diet before, but moving has made me realize how much I really have. So officially today is Day One of the Yarn Diet, I’m gonna try to go 6 months. I’m pretty sure I have enough yarn to keep me busy that long. If I run out, which is highly unlikely I’ll quite before then.

Dad's CowlMy first FO of the new year! My Dad asked me for this for Christmas. It wasn’t done in time because the first attempt, Frog Tree Alpaca didn’t work out. This is KnitPicks Swish Superwash DK. It’s yummy!

I just made up the pattern as I went along. Even though it doesn’t fit me perfectly I think it will fit him. I know his head is bigger than mine and he doesn’t have my freakishly long neck. But I can alway tweak it if it doesn’t.

IMG_2050I’m gonna do something here I don’t normally do. I”m gonna overwhelm you with FO’s! I really think each and every finished knit deserves it’s very own post. But I have several 2007 Finished Knits that I want to get out there so I can start 2008 off fresh and new.

First up, another Calorimetry, this one is a belated Christmas gift for a friend. Technically it’s not done becaues I haven’t selected a button for it and we all know that’s the most important part. I only cast on 100 stitches, knit on size 8 Bryspun Cirs, using the last of my Panache stash. Man I love this stuff! Why did KnitPicks do away with it? *sigh*

Next up – Baby Hat in the same Panache, it’s a matching set for Mom and Baby see? I think I cast on 64 stitches, worked in seed stitch for awhile then switched to stockinette and started the decreases when it seems appropriate.

Matching scarves for my niece in Carons’ Simply Soft. I was snowed in at my Parents and I had the yarn, so I cranked out a couple of sideways scarves to go with their blankets.

Here is Ashely rocking hers. Doesn’t she look all artsy with the scarf and the markers? She just needs a beret!

Last, but hardly least, the Simple Log Cabin Throw.  This thing really deserves its own post because I was seriously tired of knitting it waay before it was done!  All that garter stitch and stitches to pick up!  When it was done I crocheted a border around it to help bring everything together.  It looks really nice and I’m pleased with it, but I wont be making one again! LOL

IMG_0282I know I know! I shoulda been knitting Christmas gifts but I just HAD to have one of these for my very own. Plus I needed to make sure my notes on the decreases were right. They were! I luuuuuuv this so much!

  • Cast On: November 17, 2007
  • Weaving In: November 18, 2007
  • Pattern: My own based on a stitch pattern the Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns
  • Needles: Size 7 Bryspun circular and double points
  • Yarn: KnitPicks Swish Superwash in Merlot Heather, I used one and just a tiny bit of the second ball.
  • For me!

I blocked the green one before I took pics, but I didn’t block this one. I think the Swish Superwash is a bit thicker than the Cascade, but they both look great!

The pattern is up Get it Here, Ravelry peeps queue it up here. Thank you to Helen and Lara, who assured me it was ok to write it. I really love this hat and pattern I’m so happy I was able to write it and share! If you make this hat I’d love it if send me a picture or a link! I want do a gallery of other peoples FO’s for it. I’m supa proud of this pattern.
