Well I’m supposed to be on a yarn diet, but my LYS was having a sale this weekend and I needed some yarn for Christmas knitting.  I, uh, somehow ended up with more.

This is Ella Rae Lace Merino, its destined to be Jeanie. Its a bit lighter weight than the smooshy the pattern calls for, I love the colors, and I think I can make it work

This is Baby Twist, I don’t have a plan for it, but it was so soft and beautiful, it was calling me name.

This is Frog Tree Alpaca worsted, destined to be a Christmas gift.

There was some frogging around here this weekend too. I frogged several projects that have been languishing on the needles for ages.  I actually have several more that need to be frogged.

Socks that rock frogged

All the frogging and I recovered some needles that I’d forgotten I had. Nice.

I also picked up a new pair of Bryspun circs.  I think these are going to be my go to for Circs from now on.  I’ve really liked the Bryspun forever, but the KnitPicks Harmony were swaying me over.  That is until I accidently stepped on a set and broke them.  Not a happy camper.  Althought I might get them as an additional set of the Options.

I was in my LYS the other day looking for some yarn to make a hat.  Yes I have lots of yarn, but I didn’t have it in the color I needed and I just got one hank of Cascade 220 so that hardly qualifies as breaking the diet.  But, while I was there, I spied some yarn that was just super yummy and I knew I had to have it.  I also saw a sign that said they would be having a sale soon.  You see where this is going don’t you?  So I went back during the sale and snagged it.  I also picked up a few other things.  Not much really and it all fairness I did get them at 20% off!  Ok fine,  not a good excuse I know!  I’m right bakc on the wagon, which is a good things since I seem to have lost the will to knit.  Maybe it’s the weather?  I’ve been doing very little of it this summer.

Here’s the yarn that broke me, it’s Lamb’s Pride Burly Spun in Sand Dune.  I’m making a cabled scarf, with cables on both sides, it’s gonna be so warm and chunky! I can’t wait!

One week away! OMG! I can NOT wait! I some theories about what is going to happen.  If you haven’t heard they are replaying last weeks episode first and there is supposed to be some new footage!

One of my LYS was having a trunk show of Frog Tree a couple of weeks ago and I loaded up. It was so hard not to get more. The colors were just amazing. I finally settle on this red, but everything was just so stunning. I do already have a pattern for this picked up. This was part of my last purchase before the yarn diet started.

stashFirst off, let me say you guys rock. I can’t believe how many of you have the same problem and even wrote out answer to how you’re solving it! My stash diet has officially started.

First I went through all my tubs and bins and reorganized.  While I was at it, I took the advice of SuzannaBanana and cataloged everything in my stash.  There are some novelty yarns not included, but it’s in its own bin and it’s not something I buy more of any more.  I took a screen shot of my Ravelry stash you can click on it to see it bigger, but there are 107 yarns in there.

I think one of my biggest problems is buying yarn without knowing what I’ll do with it.  I’m definitely going to stop doing that.  Sales are great, but from now on I’ll have to have a project in mind before buying.  I think I see new projects in magazines on Ravelry or blogs and just want to knit it immediately.  But I have great projects in my queue.  I have a problem in all areas of my life with instant gratification and lack of patience.  This will probably be good for me on a lot of levels. LOL

While organizing i came across the Dollar and a Half Cardi, remember when I started that?  It fell by the way side, which is probably for the best, I’m a much better knitter now and I’ve seamed a couple of things.  I picked it back, frogged what I’d started and with some modifications cast back on, more on that later this week.

Tani suggested we go on a yarn diet together, I think it’s a great idea!  You always here diets are more successful with support.  I tried joining a Ravelry group, but can’t get in to it.  I don’t want to give away yarn if I don’t meet goals.  I just want to use the gorgeous yarn I have for projects I’ve been wanting to knit.  Any suggestions for a group? Should we start our own group?  or blog?

I had some of the Claudia Handpainted yarn leftover from Mitt Envy and it was so beautiful I had to do something with it. I looked for a headband pattern that I liked and couldn’t find one so I gave up and did a simple garter stitch. It probably shows off the colors the best anyway. 🙂 I love it! My hair is growing out and not quite long enough to pull it all back without some escaping so it will get used a lot. I’m sure I’ll be making more as it’s a great use of a left over yarn. Expect to see lace ones!

I owe you guys a couple of book reviews. I listened to The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory while traveling in Europe. I really liked the book and I definitely recommend it. I haven’t seen the movie, but I don’t know how they fit everything in to it, there is so much going on in the book.  If you haven’t seen the movie previews, it’s about Henry the VIII, Anne Boleyn and her sister Mary. Despite knowing how it would it for Anne, I was very engaged by the story. I’m definitely gong to be be reading The Boleyn Inheritance
